As mothers, one tends to lose sight of themselves. You spend all day, ever day tending to the needs of those around you. Mothers give themselves so wholly and unselfishly to these tiny dictators that run their lives. At any given point, a mother might have to drop what she is doing and take her child somewhere or do something for them and help them with something. There comes a point when someone with kids begins to feel like she cannot connect with the world around them. She’ll be sitting at a table full of friends and realize that she has talked of nothing but her kids for the last hour. Even moms need hobbies; especially moms. They need something to take them away from the world of nurturing, caring and giving of themselves. It needs to be something that they can give themselves to and be passionate about. The most important thing is that it does not benefit the kids. Now, it shouldn’t hurt them; it should just literally have nothing to do with them. Here are a few ideas for some hobbies a mom might like to try out.

Pottery Class
Most pottery classes are once a week with available open studio time. Pottery making is such a relaxing task that is simple to understand but takes concentration and focus in order to come out with anything that even resembles a dish or vase or whatever you are trying to make. It’s not as easy as it sounds but it’s definitely a great thing to put your mind to. There’s a lot of new skills that you can learn from shaping to using a pottery wheel, firing and painting among other things. Keep in mind that this is a pretty messy project so you aren’t going to want to dress up. No make up or hair do’s are requirement for this hobby and you can even make gifts for other people during the holidays or for birthdays and other occasions. Every one likes a hand made gift, there’s so much more love and care in it instead of things like gift cards or store bought items.

Classic Ballroom Dancing
It could be a group dance class or private sessions for you and your partner. These are not dance classes for kids. This is a time for you to go out alone or with your spouse and take classic ballroom dancing lessons for no other reason than to try something new and fun. And it doesn’t have to classic ballroom dancing, it could be jazz or salsa or hip hop if you want. Whatever you think that you might enjoy as far as dancing goes, that’s what you should try. Now, this is not referring to a one off class that you find on a coupon site. This is an ongoing, weekly or bi-weekly occurrence. You want to be able to look forward to your time spent on the dance floor. Dancing is also great exercise and has the ability to give you a confidence that you didn’t know you had.

Yoga
This is one that’s a great relaxation hobby. It is still a good work out but it really helps to clear your mind and rejuvenate your body to be able to take care of your little ones and spouse. It’s also a great place to meet people. As a mom, it can be difficult to try and find adults to talk to. All day you are surrounded by your kids and having conversations about kid subjects and things, depending on their ages. You end up not being able to talk about adult things. Going to yoga will give you the opportunity to meet people that are in the same place as you. Many of the people that go to yoga will be moms or woman that are going to be moms so you will have those things in common yet you will be able to finish a conversation because the kids will not actually be there.

Whether you do the classic ballroom dancing or something else entirely like taking singing lessons, the point is doing something that will get you out of your comfort zone and away from the mundane routine of life.
